June 28, 2011
In January 2011, SSTI held a two-day session in Harrisburg, PA with PennDOT, reviewing reforms implemented in the previous eight years and exploring ways to build on that momentum.
For the review, SSTI convened a panel of experts that included people who have led transformative initiatives as heads of state DOTs.
Results of the peer review are published in a May 2011 report, “SSTI Review of PennDOT’s Smart Transportation.” The report has prompted conversation or inquiries to SSTI in at least four states.
This webinar highlighted some of the best practices from Pennsylvania:
How do you get engineers to incorporate Smart Transportation principles as part of everyday practice? Is it possible to collaborate with MPOs, municipalities and citizens groups on land use? Where can you find money for a demonstration project to show “This is what Smart Transportation looks like!”
Our featured speakers:
• Doug MacDonald, former Secretary of Transportation, Washington State
• Jim Ritzman, Deputy Secretary for Planning, Pennsylvania DOT
