Michael Allegra is General Manager of the Utah Transit Authority (UTA), appointed in 2010. Previously he served as Chief Capital Development Officer and Assistant General Manager for UTA. As Director of Transit Development, he led the environmental study, design, and construction of UTA’s 19-mile light rail system. He implemented the design/build concept for light rail and led an effort to complete the University Line prior to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. He began his career in 1976 as a transportation engineer for the Wasatch Front Regional Council. In 1979, he was hired as UTA’s Manager of Planning and Research, where he was responsible for overseeing operations service planning, establishing fare structures for the bus system, and leading studies to develop short and long-range plans. Mr. Allegra holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech.
