Environmental, economic and social demands are increasingly pressuring transportation agencies to reduce the number and length of automobile trips. There is no single accepted playbook for reducing VMT, but research and advances in policy are providing ways forward. Of special note are the recent rulemaking in California that sets a method for addressing induced VMT from highway capacity projects, as well as provisions around accessibility and induced VMT in HR 2, the House-passed transportation bill. We will begin with presentations from:
