Performance measures for non-motorized transportation
May 2, 2014
Cities, states, and the federal government have set a number of goals for their transportation systems. Measuring performance to evaluate how policies and investments are contributing to these goals is critical to ensuring progress towards them. However, determining how to measure the performance of bicycle and pedestrian policies and investments is uniquely challenging. Because the focus on bike and pedestrian transportation is a relatively recent phenomenon, there is little agreement about what the goals for these types of policies and investments should be, much less on how progress towards these goals should be measured.
