Sustainability Network

No state can tackle today’s transportation challenges alone.

Our Sustainability Network connects state DOT staff tackling some of the most urgent challenges for the transportation field, and for our planet. Participants tap into a powerful peer-learning community—sharing what works, refining new approaches, and responding together as opportunities and challenges emerge.

“I have really appreciated having the venue to talk about issues in a really focused way. We are focused in on topics in a different way that some of the other venues that the states interact with, and it wouldn’t be possible without SSTI bringing us together.”

Kerri Woehler, Multimodal Planning Division Director, WSDOT

Through the network, participants have:

  • Learned from facilitated exercises to identify opportunities to accomplish more with scarce resources;
  • Engaged with leading national experts on topics like communication strategies, best practices in project prioritization, and the fast-evolving federal landscape;
  • Formed a working group for state and regional officials to advance emissions analysis and tools;
  • Connected with peers at informal meetups at larger meetings and conferences.

A group of transportation professionals are standing with their bicycles, wearing helmets, listening to a group leader speak. A brick building is in the background.

“SSTI has brought together states with similar values, interests, challenges, and opportunities in moving forward toward the future of transportation.”

Nancy Daubenberger, Commissioner, MnDOT
